On Being Free (Poem)

I practise being me
in a world, that does not see.
I repress to fit the crowd
’cause being free is not allowed.
I shy away from being bold
’cause that’s the way I’ve been told.

Such a life I do resist
and out of spite, I will persist.
What I am is needed here
which is why my path is clear.
I understand who you all are
because inside we are not far.

Now, I step up to being me
and just by that, I am set free.
What on earth did I so fear?
The other side was never here.
What in the end becomes apparent,
is that we’re all just transparent.
